After a few days apart, the pack is back together today. They are already exhausted after an enthusiastic greeting and crazy run around!

Finally, after 12 weeks of recovery following knee surgery, Waffles is cleared for normal activity! So far, normal snoozing activity… vet visits are exhausting! Maybe tomorrow…

Some days are a bit overwhelming. Some days I'm out for the count with migraine, or pretty exhausted in the aftermath. It has been that way since I was an early teen. For something that seems to be pretty commonplace, it is debilitating. It is also something that is often written off as just a headache by those who have never experienced it. It is the one thing that stops me in my tracks, it is not something that I can power through.
I take steps to manage it with lifestyle, diet and some hefty medications - and I try to live in every moment of the good days. I try to notice and catalogue the great small things in each day. The silliness and laughs are the things that make everything else less intimidating. They help me breathe when facing the days that are not so great. I hope everyone finds a silly moment today to cherish. #migraine #migrainerelief

I know I am not alone in this! I know other parents are struggling to help their children manage this! It is so frustrating to not be acknowledged!
My son was diagnosed with an extreme allergy to a number of food dyes in the UK. It was difficult in the early years, but at least it was recognized as a real thing!
The main offending colors were banned eventually and life for my son changed dramatically! It was fantastic!
It is a little different here. We face the old challenges once again, with my son having to watch everything he eats and drinks, and the consequences of missing something are huge. It is so easy to do - it seems that they are in everything. Reactions range from depression, attention deficit symptoms, through to anger and blackouts. Physical reactions like severe skin rashes are common too! These reactions have become more extreme as he has become older and all of it is totally overwhelming at times. Worst of all, the medical world refuses to consider it at all. It is just not real regardless of evidence and testimony from so many. It is ruining lives. Look to your food labels and approach with caution!

Trying something new...
I need to take a little more care of myself, top-up those energy reserves, calm the nerves and get some sleep! It has been a really tough few months and for a little while there, I was not OK. In my most honest moments, I can admit that I am still not OK.
I am working on it!
A friend recommended some supplements to help with energy levels and sleep - so I am definitely trying those. I am starting a new exercise regime and looking for where I fit now that my children are growing. One of my awesome boys already left home and the other becomes more independent every day! They both still need me true, just not quite in the same way. Time to add in some direction for me...

Keeping on, keeping on. Not sleeping well, dragging in the mornings but finding the joy!

So when does being a parent get easier? I am sure I was told that it would be smoother as they got older! When will that be exactly? I wouldn't change a thing about my wonderful boys and at the same time, I do feel as though the last time I had a decent night's sleep was years ago! No more babies crying keeping me up all night, but somewhere along the line, I became a worrier! Keeping it together one day at a time!

Visiting my boy in Florida - a little time for me - a peaceful few minutes. It's the best medicine there is!
